Buying vinyl online is different from buying in a shop. You can't hold the record, check the grooves under a light, or drop the needle before you commit. Here's what experienced collectors know — and what first-time buyers should understand before placing an order.
Condition Is Everything
The single most important factor in buying vinyl online is understanding condition grades. We use the Goldmine Grading Standard — the industry benchmark — and we grade conservatively. A Near Mint (NM) record from us will play cleanly with no surface noise. A Very Good Plus (VG+) record may show light marks under direct light but should play near-perfectly.
Read our full grading guide: How We Grade Our Records: The Goldmine Standard Explained.
Original Pressings vs. Represses
Many of the records we stock are represses or reissues — new pressings of classic titles, often on 180g vinyl with remastered audio. These are not inferior to originals; in many cases they sound better, because they're pressed on higher-quality vinyl and haven't been played.
Original pressings — particularly from the late 1980s and early 1990s — were often pressed on thin, budget vinyl and played hard in clubs. An original Trax Records pressing of an Acid House classic is a piece of history, but don't expect audiophile sound quality. We note this clearly in our listings.
If you're buying for listening rather than collecting, a quality repress is often the better choice. If you're buying for provenance and history, the original is irreplaceable.
"Plays Like VG+" — What Does That Mean?
You'll sometimes see this phrase in our listings, particularly on older records. It means the visual grade is lower than VG+ — there may be marks or scuffs visible — but the record plays better than its appearance suggests. Surface marks don't always translate to surface noise. We note this when it applies.
Media and Sleeve Are Graded Separately
A listing showing "Near Mint (NM) / Very Good Plus (VG+)" means the vinyl is NM and the sleeve is VG+. Always check both grades. A Mint record in a tatty sleeve is still a Mint record — but if sleeve condition matters to you, check before you buy.
Ask Before You Buy
If you have a specific question about a record — pressing details, matrix numbers, sleeve condition, whether a particular copy has a specific insert — ask us before you order. We're a specialist operation and we know our stock. We'd rather answer a question upfront than deal with a disappointed buyer after the fact.

International Orders
We ship worldwide on tracked services. International buyers should be aware that import duties and taxes may apply on arrival — these are the buyer's responsibility and vary by country. EU buyers in particular should check local VAT rules before ordering.

Stock Moves Fast
We list records as they come in and update stock in real time. If something is showing as available, it's in stock. If you're interested in a specific title, don't wait — particularly on limited pressings, Record Store Day releases, or anything we've flagged as low stock. We can't hold records without payment.
